CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#15): Hockey Redmen and both swim teams listed in national rankings

OTTAWA (CIS) – Three varsity teams McGill University find themselves listed in the first CIS national rankings of the new year.

In men’s hockey, the Redmen slipped one spot to No.8 in the wake of a 3-1 loss to UQTR last Sunday. McGill will take their 13-4-0 OUA record on the road to southern Ontario this weekend for games against Waterloo (11-6-1) and Laurier (5-12-1).

The Alberta Golden Bears maintain their No. 1 status in the first CIS men’s hockey Top 10 of the winter semester.The Bears (17-3) resumed conference play this past weekend with a two-game sweep of archrival Calgary, defeating the nationally fifth-ranked Dinos 6-1 and 5-3.

In swimming, the idle Martlets maintained their seventh-place ranking, while the Redmen slipped to eighth. Both McGill squads will resume their Coupe de Quebec schedule on Jan. 16 in Quebec City. The UBC Thunderbirds hold on to the pole position in both the women’s and men’s Top 10.

The CIS rankings in basketball, volleyball and women’s hockey resume next Tuesday.
