(ISN) – Kamloops, BC – The Kamloops Blazers have acquired 18-year-old defenseman Brycen Martin from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 19-year-old defenseman Josh Connolly and a 2nd round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2016.
Martin was picked by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft. The 6’2″ and 198lb defenseman is in his third WHL season with the Swift Current Broncos. He was originally the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.
In 39 games this season, Martin has two goals and 16 points. In 181 career WHL games, the Calgary, AB native has 10 goals and 72 points.
“Brycen is in an age group where we felt it was important to add a defenseman,” commented General Manager, Craig Bonner. “He is big, mobile, and a puck moving defenseman who will play in all situations for our hockey club.”
Connolly is in his third WHL season with the Blazers. In 164 career WHL games, the Prince George, BC native has 17 goals and 85 points.
The Blazers roster sits at 24 players including two goaltenders, eight defensemen and 14 forwards.
