This Weekend: In the first edition of the BC Interior university basketball series of the 2014-15 Canada West season will get underway this weekend with the first round going down in Kamloops. Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Tournament Capital Centre the 2-6 Heat will face the 4-4 WolfPack. Saturday night the rematch will take place at 7 p.m.

Head-to-Head – versus the TRU: (4-2 in CW) The two teams have played six times in Canada West with UBC Okanagan winning four of those six, splitting the games last season with each home team losing. This year in the Explorer division there will be four games between the teams, two in Kelowna and two in Kamloops.

UBC Okanagan over the break: At home UBC Okanagan hosted two CCAA teams last weekend with the Heat falling to Douglas 57-53 and then routing the Red Deer Kings 92-61.

WolfPack over the break: TRU in December played in Phoenix and Washington against various NAIA teams winning two of the four games but have not been in action yet in 2015.

TRU to this point: The WolfPack have been a streaky team so far in Canada West, winning the first three games before dropping four in a row and then righting the ship in the last league game at Mount Royal to finish 2014 with a 4-4 record.

Friday Night KidSport Night: Friday night’s game will be a special event in Kamloops as the WolFpack will play the game for KidSport and according to the WolfPack website the proceeds from this night will go towards the Kamloops KidSport Program to support Kamloops youth participation in sports.

There will be popcorn and a 50/50 raffle put on by the KidSport board of directors.  If you are a KidSport participant, WolfPack McDonalds Sport Camp Participant or a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops family admission to the games is free with a donation to KidSport.  This is a national program with KidSport and Universities.

KAMLOOPS – The evolution of the WolfPack basketball program under coach Scott Clark continues in an upward trend.  Thompson Rivers made the playoffs for the first time since joining CIS and that is the goal this year.

Clark has a solid core of veterans led by Josh Wolfram (fourth year, forward, Kamloops, BC) who was among the Canada West leaders in a number of categories last year as was Reese Pribilsky (fourth year, guard, Victoria, BC) and Tallon Milne (fifth year forward, Vanderhoof, BC).

Other veterans set to contribute are fifth year guards Brett Parker (Langley, BC) and Brett Rouault (Vernon, BC) and fourth year forward Gerard Gore (St. John’s Antiqua).

The WolfPack recruited two top players out of U.S. Junior College: Sean Price and Victor Aguero (both from Washington State).  Another highly touted fresh face is Josh Mayorga (Langley, BC) who attended the Junior National team training camp and led Walnut Grove to a BC “AAA” high school championship.
