(ISN) – Christmas is over, but the winter break is not. Regular season games won’t start for a while yet….
The 1st div men don’t have a scheduled game until Feb 21st, home to Cowichan. The Premier women also have to wait until Feb 21, when they travel to Seattle. The 2nd div women’s schedule for the spring isn’t listed yet by the BCRU. The 3rds are hoping the new year will breathe some new life into the division, and are waiting to hear which Island clubs are going to commit to the season before a schedule can be made.
It makes for a long break, so I suspect we will be hearing about some exhibition games before long. Already on the radar is a friendly match being planned between the Velox Old Boys and the Ebb Tide, set for Super Bowl Sunday (Feb 1) at the club.
This spring season is a momentous one for the club: at the end of May we will vacate the facility in Gordon Head and begin our move to our new home in Colwood. We hope that all our members from throughout the decades will join us over the next few months to mark the transition and celebrate our history. Home games and club nights offer a great opportunity to do so, but there are also a number of special events in the works!
An Old Velox Player Passes
Long-time club members will remember Chris Hall, a former Velox player who has recently passed away from throat cancer. His celebration of life is 3pm Monday the 12th at the Carson Room, Level 2, Victoria Conference Centre, for those who would like to attend.
