No matter how long someone has been in the spotlight, there’s always another nugget that gets its moment to shine.
With the College Football Playoff championship game on Monday, MLB.com Matt Monagan notes Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was once a Braves prospect and he used to play intense ping-pong games with Ron Gant.
The Buckeyes face Oregon in the national title game at 8:30 p.m.
Meyer spent two seasons — 1982 and ’83 — in the bus leagues, beating the bushes as a shortstop. However, as Monagan writes, “after that ’83 season and arm injuries, the Braves would cut Meyer. His waiver papers were signed by some farm director named Hank Aaron.”
So about that throw of the headset during the Sugar Bowl … maybe Meyer has a future in the coaching ranks.
