(ISN) – This week’s UNB Varsity Reds and Domino’s Pizza Athletes of the Week are hockey’s Chris Carrozzi and Vanja Mitrovic from the women’s volleyball team.
2nd Year, Kinesiology
The second-year Kinesiology student was unbeatable in net for the Varsity Reds on Sunday against Moncton’s Aigles Bleus. Carrozzi made 32 saves and earned the shutout in the V-Reds 5-0 win.
“Chris had an outstanding weekend for our hockey club,” said head coach Gardiner MacDougall.
“He was exceptional on Sunday stopping all 32 shots and making some huge saves at the end of the first period on a key 5-on-3 penalty kill. It’s great to see him contributing and helping our club to a big weekend.”
4th Year, Political Science
This week’s UNB Varsity Reds and Domino’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week is Vanja Mitrovic from the women’s volleyball team.
The fourth-year political science student had a great weekend as the women’s volleyball team faced their first challenges since the winter break.
Mitrovic racked up 28 points for the Varsity Reds over the weekend’s two games against Memorial, with an impressive .316 hitting percentage on Saturday and .237 on Sunday and five aces.
“Vanja was on fire!” said UNB head coach Jillian Goulet. “It was great to see Saturday, but doing it again on Sunday was the challenge and Vanja rose to it. I’m really proud of her performance this weekend.”
