Former Highlander Polster drafted seventh overall by MLS side Chicago Fire
VICTORIA – Highlanders FC would like to congratulate former player Matt Polster (Las Vegas, NV.) on his seventh place selection by Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer’s Jan. 15 2015 SuperDraft.
Polster, a defender who played his collegiate career with Southern Illinois Edwardsville Cougars, joined Highlanders FC during the 2013 Premier Development League campaign.
Polster’s ambitions were evident during his stint with the Highlanders.
“He always said that his goal was to get to the professional ranks in the MLS,” said Highlanders’ head coach Steve Simonson. “Coming to Victoria we got to see the quality of player that Matt is and we got to see his determination to be a soccer player. To be picked seventh overall is a credit to the hard work he has put into his game.”
The 2015 SuperDraft is being held in Philadelphia and is the 16th edition of the MLS’ draft. The initial two rounds take place Jan. 15, while the third and fourth rounds will take place Jan. 20. In total, 29 players with PDL experience were drafted in the first two rounds of this year’s draft.
“Albeit a short period of time, Matt was a player that we were proud to be in our program,” added Simonson. “He was part of our successful 2013 campaign, he’s a top-class man and we wish him the best of luck. He is fully deserving of this opportunity.”
The Highlanders are dedicated to providing opportunities for players to achieve their respective goals, whether it is at a collegiate level or professional level. For more information on the Highlanders organization, please visit www.highlandersfc.ca.
