(ISN) – VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s swim teams are heading to the mainland, Jan. 17, for the Senior Circuit competition at the UBC Aquatic Centre, in Vancouver. This will be the first of three remaining meets before the CIS National Championships in Victoria on Feb. 19-21.
On the men’s team, fifth year Craig Dagnall seeded the meet’s 200-m freestyle with a time of 1:53.38, and will race the event again this weekend. The Claremont Secondary graduate will also take part in the 100-m butterfly and 50-m fly after seeding for second in both events.
Third-year team captain Brett Zollen is the No. 1 seed for the meet’s 100-m and 50-m freestyle events. Second year Jon McKay will race the 400-m freestyle and the 200-m butterfly, while rookie Ryan Howewill dive in for the 200-m IM. Third-year Victoria native Aidan Thirkell is lined up for the 200-m, 100-m and 50-m breaststroke.
For the women, second-year Calgary native Jordan Stariha will be one to look out for in the 50-m, 100-m and 200-m breaststroke, finishing as one of the top three seeds for all three events. Third-year team captain Rachael Newman will be back for the 50-m, 100-m and 200-m butterfly.
Eighteen-year-old Rosie Moulton ranks second in the meet’s 200-m IM, right behind teammate Stariha, with a seeding time of 2:52.62. Moulton will also compete in the 200-m freestyle on Saturday.
The Vikes will return to Victoria for the Vancouver Island Championships, Jan. 23-25.
