(ISN) – CALGARY, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Brandon Wheat Kings forward Tim McGauley is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 18th, 2015.
McGauley notched six points (2g-4a), while posting an impressive plus-seven rating in three games over the past week, leading the Wheat Kings to three straight victories in that span.
On Tuesday, January 13th, McGauley was held pointless as Brandon defeated the host Edmonton Oil Kings 2-1. On Friday, January 16th, McGauley had a four-point night (2g-2a) and finished the game with a plus-five rating while claiming first star honours in an 8-5 triumph over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes. McGauley finished the week by chipping in with two helpers in a 5-3 win over the Broncos in Swift Current on Saturday.
A 19-year-old from Wilcox, SK, McGauley has tallied 56 points (27g-29a) along with a plus-17 rating in 46 games this season. He currently is tied for sixth place in league scoring and his 27 goals are also tied for fifth overall in the WHL. The 6’0″, 185 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign. Originally a first round pick, 20th overall, of the Saskatoon Blades in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, McGauley has amassed 161 points (65g-96a) in 199 career regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Connor Ingram of the Kamloops Blazers for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Ingram, a 17-year-old Imperial, SK product, registered a 1.00 goals against average and a .968 save percentage, including one shutout, in two starts during the past week. On Wednesday, January 14th, Ingram stopped 24 of 26 shots and was named the game’s first star in a 6-2 victory over the visiting Portland Winterhawks. On Saturday, January 17th, Ingram turned aside all 36 shots he faced while also earning first star honours as the Blazers blanked the visiting Vancouver Giants 1-0. Now in his first season in the WHL with the Blazers, Ingram has posted a 9-11-1-3 record with 2 shutouts in 28 career regular season appearances.
