(ISN) – LANGFORD, BC – Rugby Canada is pleased to announce that the 2015 Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC) will be contested over two double-header game days on June 28th and July 1st at the Calgary Rugby Park in, Alberta.
The CRC, which is Canada’s top domestic competition, is part of Rugby Canada’s High Performance pathway to develop top-level rugby players for the National Men’s Fifteens Team. With this being a World Cup year, the CRC will take on extra importance, as it will also be the last chance for domestic players to impress the National Team coaches before selections are made for Canada’s World Cup warm up matches in July and August.
The Wolf Pack have never won the championship and will be eager to capture their first ever MacTier Cup at their home pitch. The Ontario Blues, current MacTier Cup holders, are on a four-year title run, while both the B.C. Bears and Atlantic Rock have won the championship once each.
The first day of games on June 28th will feature last season’s champions, the Ontario Blues, taking on the fourth ranked side, the Atlantic Rock, while the Wolf Pack, who finished second in 2014, will face off against the Bears. The winner’s of these two games will meet on Canada Day, July 1st, to decide the championship. The losers, meanwhile, will face off earlier in the day to decide 3rd place.
“We are really excited to be hosting the men’s CRC and what will be a great week of rugby in Alberta and the Prairies,” said Wolf Pack Head Coach, Graeme Moffat.
“The Calgary Rugby Park is a great facility for hosting this tournament, and I believe the rugby public will get behind the tournament and come to watch some of the best players from around the country go head to head in the build up to the World Cup. The Wolf Pack came close last year and would like to go one better and win the MacTier Cup. To do that at home would be pretty special for our players and organization,” added Moffat.
On awarding Calgary with the hosting rights for the CRC, Mike Chu had a lot of praise to give to both the Wolf Pack and the City of Calgary.

“Calgary has a long tradition of hosting world-class events, including international rugby fixtures, and I am confident that both the Wolf Pack and the City of Calgary will put on a first rate event this summer,” said Chu from the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence in Langford, BC.
“Last year the Calgary Rugby Union held the National Festival in Calgary and we were warmly welcomed by the city and local organizing committee. The event was well attended and the hospitality of the city was evident to all who came,” added Chu.
“With this being a World Cup year, the level of competition will be at its highest, allowing fans across the prairies the opportunity to watch the best domestic-based Canadian players before they depart for England and Wales in September,” said Chu.
All matches will take place at the Calgary Rugby Park and will be live streamed at www.rugbycanada.ca.
