(ISN) – NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – The University of Calgary Dinos are looking to clinch a playoff spot this weekend while traveling to MacEwan University to face the Griffins.
After returning from a winning weekend at home against Winnipeg, the Dinos (12-8) hold the fourth spot in the women’s volleyball standings and with two wins this weekend, would be guaranteed a position in the playoffs.
MacEwan (7-11) enters Friday’s game on a two-match losing streak after being swept by Trinity Western, and is currently sitting in eighth place tied with Winnipeg, looking for a spot in the top seven.
The last time these two teams met was back in preseason in September. Although the match went to five sets, the Griffins prevailed in front of the home crowd by sealing the deal in the fifth set 15-3.
Calgary’s fifth-year setter, Jordynn Guy leads the conference in assists per set and will be looking for rookie Kate Pexman to finish the job. In Calgary’s last match-up versus Winnipeg, Pexman stole the show with a game-high 19 kills, 13 digs and 22 points and went on the next day to add 10 kills and a game-high 14 digs. She is currently sitting at third in the conference in kills with 245.
MacEwan’s previous match versus TWU showed Cassidy Kinsella leading the team with 10 kills, four blocks and six digs and is now currently seventh in the conference in kills with 224. Kinsella has been hot from the get go, starting her year off with 17 kills in her first matchup against UBC and adding a season-high 25 back in October against Brandon.
The teams will play at 6:00 PM MT Friday and will return the next day to play at 5:00 PM MT. Both games will be webcasted live on CanadaWest.TV.
