(ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks (26-19-0-3) won their third straight as they defeated the visiting Spokane Chiefs (23-18-3-1) 4-1 Friday at the Moda Center in front of 8,284 fans.

The Hawks opened the scoring 2:58 into the game when Paul Bittner, fresh off a goal at last night’s CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, scored on a shot from the left faceoff circle to make it 1-0.

Portland extended the lead at the 10:01 mark when defenseman Brendan De Jong fired a shot past Spokane goaltender Garret Hughson to make it 2-0 going into the second. It was De Jong’s second straight game with a goal after notching the first of his career Saturday in Prince George.

Early in the second Oliver Bjorkstrand carried the puck into the Spokane zone on a two-on-one, waited for an opening and slid the puck across to Chase De Leo, who banged it in for a 3-0 Portland lead. De Leo struck again on a power play at the 8:50 mark when he beat a defenseman one-on-one with a great move and fired it past Hughson for a 4-0 lead.

Spokane got one back on a power play goal from Nick Charif at the 14:10 mark of the second, as Portland took a 4-1 lead into the third.

Neither team found the back of the net in the final frame as Portland skated away with the 4-1 victory.

Bittner, De Leo and Oliver Bjorkstrand all had two points apiece in the win. Adin Hill picked up the win in net with 33 saves on 34 shots.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow in Seattle when they take on the Thunderbirds.
