WOMEN’S FINAL SCORE: Capilano University Blues def. Camosun Chargers 69-61
Despite leading in today’s first half and the majority of the 3rd quarter, the Chargers women suffered their second loss of the weekend, falling to CAP 69-61. With a slim 4 point lead at the half (32-28), Camosun came out to set the pace in the 3rd but instead found themselves trying to chase down a rejuvenated Blues crew. With 3:45 left in the 3rdQ, CAP tied the game at 41-all and began their surge over the home team. CAP outscored Camosun 41-28 in the second half to win the game by 8.
Both teams are now 6-6. First-year post Ali Cooper (Oak Bay) led Camosun with 15 pts and 11 rebounds. First-year guard Haley Cabral contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds.
MEN’S FINAL SCORE: Camosun Chargers def. Capilano University Blues 86-76
The Camosun men led in all but the first quarter today against the Capilano Blues, taking down their visitors by a solid 10 points. The win puts the Chargers up 4-8 while the Blues slide to 3-9. A major effort by James Giuffre and Kevin Transchel (both of whom are Esquimalt grads and third-year forwards) were key to Camosun’s victory. Giuffre posted 18 points and 5 rebounds; Transchel had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Chargers basketball teams are on the road next weekend with games against the CBC Bearcats and Kwantlen Eagles.
