(ISN) – Miles Koules scored the winning goal in overtime as the Portland Winterhawks (27-19-0-3) beat the Seattle Thunderbirds (22-19-2-3) 4-3 Saturday in Seattle.
The Hawks opened the scoring at the 1:53 mark of the first period when Nic Petan sent a pass across the ice to Oliver Bjorkstrand who then fired a wrist shot from the top of the right circle to beat Seattle netminder Taran Kozun for a 1-0 lead. Seattle got on the board on a goal from Jared Hauf at the 5:50 mark to even the score going into the second.
Chase De Leo made it 2-1 at the 7:41 mark of the second on a pass from Jack Flaman, but Seattle’s Ryan Gropp then hammered one home just 30 seconds later to make it 2-2.
