(ISN) – Spokane, WA- It was the Evan Sarthou show for the second straight night, as he led the Tri-City Americans (24-22-0-2, 50 pts) to a 2-0 win against the Spokane Chiefs (23-19-3-1, 50 pts) at Spokane Arena on Saturday night.
Tri-City came out and played well in the first, getting a majority of the chances and outshooting Spokane 7-6. Both goalies held strong in the first period, keeping the game scoreless after one period.
The second period was closely contested, with both teams recording eight shots in the period. Once again, the goalies were solid between the pipes, stopping every shot and keeping the game scoreless heading into the third period.
The Americans broke through early in the third period, as a turnover by the Chiefs led to a breakaway for Lucas Nickles, firing a shot past Garret Hughson stick-side to make it 1-0. Spokane pressed to get the tying goal throughout the third, outshooting the Americans, 12-8. But Evan Sarthou was up to the task again tonight, and a late empty net goal from Beau McCue sealed the win for the Americans.
Evan Sarthou records his fourth shutout in his last five games. Tri-City has outscored Spokane 9-0 in the last two games.
Each team only spent two minutes in the penalty box and weren’t able to convert a lone power play chance.
Garret Hughson turned in a 21 save performance in the loss, while Evan Sarthou stopped all 26 shots he faced.
Tri-City will hit the road again tomorrow as they face the Portland Winterhawks (27-19-0-3, 57 pts) on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Moda Center.
