Olympian Jacqueline Brooks of Cedar Valley, Ont. rode her 2012 Olympic Games mount D Niro (D-Day x Napoleon 625), a 16-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding owned by Mary Brooks of Brookhaven Dressage Inc., to a 10th place finish in the Grand Prix test with a score of 68.000%. The pair moved up to sixth following the Freestyle 72.325%.
Riding Douglas Leatherdale’s Devon L (De Niro x Wolkenstein II), a 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding, Diane Creech of Caistor Centre, Ont., placed 11th with 68.275% in the Grand Prix Freestyle and 13th in the Grand Prix test with 67.540%.
In the largest class, with 48 entries, Megan Lane of Loretto, Ont., and San D’Or (Sandro Hit x Cocktail), Deer Ridge Equestrian’s nine-year-old Westphalian gelding, finished in seventh place in the Prix St. Georges test with a score of 67.974%. Riding Evi Strasser’s Argo-Conti Tyme (Agentinus x Continue), a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Denielle Gallagher-Legriffon of Lakeside, N.B., was 10th with a score of 67.342%.
Chris Von Martels, originally of Ridgetown, Ont., and currently based in Wellington, Fla., rode his 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Zilverstar, sired by Rousseau, to sixth place earning a score of 69.632% in the Intermediate I test. Seventh place (69.079%) was awarded to Olympian Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, Ont., riding Tattoo 15 (Tuareg x Ramiro’s Son), her 11-year-old German Westphalian gelding. Shannon Dueck, who is based in Florida, finished in 10th with 67.763% in the Intermediate I test aboard Cantaris (Compliment x Eiger I), Elizabeth Ferber’s 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding. Dueck and Cantaris also finished in sixth place in the Intermediate I Freestyle with 67.725%.
The ground jury for the event consisted of Canadians Lee Tubman FEI 3* and Elizabeth McMullen FEI 5* along with Linda Zang USA FEI 5*, Wim Ernes NED FEI 5*, Peter Holler GER FEI 5*, Hans-Christian Matthiesen DEN FEI 5*, Raphael Saleh FRA FEI 4*, Jane Weatherwax USA FEI 4*, Gabriel Martin Armando ARG FEI 4* and Cesar Torrente COL FEI 3*.
