Gazzola was strong for the UNB hockey team as they secured their top-ranking in the AUS with three wins this past week. In Wednesday’s 6-1 win over crosstown rivals St. Thomas, Gazzola posted one assist. In Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Dalhousie, he logged over 30 minutes of ice time and got yet another assist. In Friday’s 2-1 game against Acadia, Gazzola had the overtime winner, securing UNB’s first win against the Axemen this season.

“Randy was fantastic for us this past week,” said UNB associate coach Rob Hennigar. “He’s had a great start to his CIS career both on the ice and in the classroom. The goal he scored Friday night against Acadia was the culmination of his hard work throughout this season and was arguably our biggest goal so far this year.”

The fourth-year Engineering student was a key player in this weekend’s split against Acadia. On Friday, she put up 16 points and nine rebounds in UNB’s narrow five-point loss. On Saturday’s three-point UNB win, DeLong posted 13 points and 13 rebounds and was named AUS Subway Player of the Game.

“Kiley always plays the game the way it should be played,” said UNB head coach Jeff Speedy, “with toughness, full speed and with maximum effort. She did that and more this weekend. Kiley led by example and played some of her best basketball of the season when we really needed a boost.”
