(ISN) – ANNVILLE, Pa. (Women’s Lacrosse) – The Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Devils were selected as the favorite in the Freedom Conference heading into the 2015 season, it was announced Tuesday.
FDU-Florham received 33 points and four of the seven first-place votes in a preseason poll conducted among the conference women’s lacrosse coaches. The Devils finished the 2014 season in the Freedom Conference semifinal round. FDU-Florham won the first two Freedom Conference titles in 2012, 2013 when the Middle Atlantic Conference split into the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences in 2012. The Devils have three total conference lacrosse titles, winning the MAC in 2008.
Arcadia, who won the 2014 Freedom Conference title, moved to the Commonwealth Conference in 2015 with the addition of Delaware Valley in the Freedom Conference.
Wilkes earned 32 points and the other three first-place votes to be positioned second. The Lady Colonels finished runner up to the Knights last season in a 17-14 loss. Wilkes ended the season with a 13-3 record.
Misericordia earned 28 points for the third spot. The Cougars reached the 2014 Freedom Conference semifinal round as the third-seed, but lost to Wilkes by a score of 26-19.
Eastern (21 points), King’s (16 points), Manhattanville (11 points), Delaware Valley (6 points) rounded out the preseason poll.
Delaware Valley will be competing in its first season of women’s lacrosse.
