(ISN) – Saskatoon, SK—Iuliia Pakhomenko (third year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) has had a lot of top nights in her first Canada West women’s volleyball season.
Tonight (Feb 6) in Saskatoon, she put on a clinic as the WolfPack needed five sets to down the hometown University of Sskatchewan Huskies 3-2 . In the process, she established a new Canada West single match record for service aces.
The scores were 25-21,29-27,17-25,18-25, 16-14.
The WolfPack move to 9-14 on the year while Saskatchewan falls to 5-18.
Pakhomenko had 24 kills on 50 chances with 13 service aces, two assists, 12 digs and two block assists. Those 13 service aces is a new Canada West record. The old record was 10 held by Lies Verhoeff of Trinity Western University. It was set November 30, 2002.
Katarina Legutky (second year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB) had eight kills in 25 chances with a service ace, one assist and five digs.
Katie Woo (third year, setter, Surrey, BC) had 41 assists.
Alyssa Wolf (fourth year, outside hitter/libero, South Surrey, BC) added 13 digs.
The Huskies were led by Emmalyn Copping with 16 kills in 40 chances with an assist, two service aces, 15 digs and one solo block. Jenelle Sokoloski had 14 kills in 33 chances with 10 digs. Two other Huskies were in double digits for digs: Jennifer Heuser had 13 digs while Jina Barker added 11.
The two teams will close out the 2014-15 Canada West regular season on Saturday (Feb 7) in Saskatoon.
