Box Score MONTREAL – Mukiya Post scored a team-high 12 points to help the Concordia Stingers upset the first place McGill Redmen 51-44 in an ugly college hoops affair at the Concordia Gym, Saturday.

The win catapulted Concordia (6-6) into a three-way tie for second place in the RSEQ conference. The Redmen (8-4), who have now dropped two out of three, are only four points ahead of Concordia, Bishop’s and Laval who are all trying to chase down the back-to-back RSEQ champions.

In a sloppy game that featured 12 lead changes McGill had a slight advantage 14-13 after the opening quarter. Nothing changed in the second stanza as both teams put up ten points giving McGill a 24-23 lead into halftime. After the break Concordia took advantage of a poor third quarter by the Redmen outscoring them 14-6 to give them a 37-30 margin going into the final frame. The Stingers never looked back from there closing out the win on their home floor.

For McGill, sophomore Regis Ivaniukas impressed for the second straight night scoring 12 points off the bench. He was 4-of-11 from the floor including one from long range and added a 3-for-5 performance from the charity stripe.

Francois Bourque, a 6-foot-5 forward from Terrebonne, Que., was the only other Redmen to reach double-digit scoring with 13 points. He went 5-for-11 from the field, 3-for-3 from the line and snagged six rebounds.

McGill, which has struggled offensively over a three game stretch, saw nothing new tonight. As a team the Redmen shot 23 per cent from the floor (14/61), 15.4 from the three-point arc (4/26) and 75 from the free-throw line (12/16). Key players Vincent Dufort and Dele Ogundokun did not make a single field goal and combined for a 0-for-17 performance. Other starters Michael Peterkin and Jenning Leung only scored five and two points respectively.

The Stingers did enough to win shooting 38.2 and 23.5, respectively and drained 5 of 9 from the line.

McGill’s schedule does not get any easier as they now have to travel to Lennoxville, Que., on Feb.13 to take on a hungry Bishop’s Gaiters squad looking to inch closer to the top of the RSEQ standings. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and can be found streamed live on Gaiters TV.
