Despite taking a 15-12 1stQ lead and trailing by just 4 pts (30-26) at the half, the Chargers women were handed a huge loss by Douglas today. The Royals advance to 10-6 while Camosun moves to 7-9. First-year post Ali Cooper (Oak Bay) led the Chargers with 11 points, 4 rebounds & 2 assists. Second-year guard Emma Cunningham (Spectrum) had 8 points, 5 rebounds & 4 assists.

MEN’S BASKETBALL FINAL SCORE:

The disappointing loss of tonight’s OT game puts the Chargers at 6-10 while the Royals move up 9-7. Third-year forward Kevin Transchel (Esquimalt) led Camosun for a second time this weekend with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist. Second-year guard Andrew Larson (Duncan) also posted 14 points, along with 1 rebound and 2 assists.

Next week, the Chargers basketball men and women head up Island to take on rivals, the VIU Mariners. Game night is Sat, Feb. 14th 6&8pm. Three weeks and five games remain before the PACWEST Provincial Basketball Championships March 5-7th hosted by CBC in Abbotsford. Top 6 in the conference qualify.

The Camosun women collected their 8th consecutive 3-0 victory and are firmly in 1st with an 8pt. lead over the #2 Capilano Blues! The men won both weekend matches in 4 and are T#2 with a record of 14-6.

This week, the Chargers start their three week countdown to the PACWEST Provincial Volleyball Championships, February 26-28th hosted by Camosun College. This Valentines’ Day weekend, the Chargers volleyball teams host the College of the Rockies Avalanche, matches on Saturday (4&6pm)and Sunday (10am&12noon).
