OWL’S HEAD, Que — Captain Allene Kennedy of Truckee, Calif., won bronze for the McGill University women’s ski team at an RSEQ ski slalom race, Sunday.

It was the first podium finish in four races this season for the McGill club, which sits third in the league standings, in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Kennedy, a 5-foot-5 environmental science junior, fought hard to finish the course under poor visibility and icy conditions. She completed her two slaloms in 52.32 seconds and 1:00.19, for a combined time of 1:52.51. The event was won by Laval’s Even Routhier (1:44.94), while Marilou Morin-Perrin of the Montreal Carabins was second in 1:47.00. Kennedy was also McGill’s top finisher in Satuday’s slaloms, placing sixth.

Other top finishes for the McGill women on Saturday were posted by sophomore Makena Korte-Moore (7th) of Ottawa and Jacqueline Baudinet, a marketing sophomore from Candiac, Que., who finished 12th despite suffering a bloody nose after accidently getting hit in the face with a gate early in the race.

On Sunday, freshman Genevieve Soden of Vail, Co., and sophommore Kelsey Wilcox of Wilmot, N.H., were seventh and ninth, respectively.

For the Redmen, Cole Rosenberg, a management freshman from Toronto, produced the teams’ top result, with a fifth-place finish on Sunday after ending up 15th Saturday. Teammate Alexander Norman, a finance junior from Kelowna, B.C., was 15th and ninth, respectively.

Next on the eight-race Quebec circuit are a pair of slaloms at Le Relais at Lac beauport, just outside of Quebec City, March 7-8.
