(ISN) – Saskatoon, SK—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have ended the 2014-15 Canada West women’s volleyball season on a three game winning streak.
The WolfPack went into Saskatoon and swept the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. On Saturday (Feb 7), the WolfPack won in three sets. The scores were 25-22,25-15,25-19).
“We were much more stable today,” said TRU head coach Chad Grimm. ” It was a much better team effort.”
Grimm juggled his lineup inserting Kara Twomey (third year, setter, Winnipeg, MB), Gabbie Fortin (second year, libero, Coquitlam, BC) and Alyssa Wolf (fourth year, outside hitter, South Surrey, BC).
“Adding that spin server helped a lot,” Grimm said. “They struggled with the serve receive and both Alyssa and Iuliia (Pakhomenko, third year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) caused them lots of problems. Both did a great job on the service line.”
Wolf had eight kills in 17 chances with six service aces, one assist and five digs. Pakhomenko wound up with a game high 14 kills on 31 opportunities with a serving ace, one assist and eight digs.
Brianne Rauch (third year, outside hitter, Kimberley, BC) led the way digs wise for TRU with nine.
Twomey had 34 assists and six digs.
TRU finished the regular season with a record of 10-14.
The Huskies wound up at 5-19 and were led by Kayla Tycholiz with six kills in 15 chances. Jina Barker had 22 assists and two digs.
