Turkish delight for St-Gelais as magical season continues

The short track speed skating team has enjoyed a delightful Saturday in Turkey with three World Cup medals.

As the tour headed to Erzurum in eastern Turkey, Marianne St-Gelais continued her dazzling form in the 2014-15 season. The Olympian captured her eighth individual World Cup medal of the season with a silver medal in the 1500m, ahead of teammate Kim Boutin who took the bronze.

It is the fourth time this season that St-Gelais finished second in the World Cup, to go with a gold and three bronze medal positions. For Boutin, it is her first individual World Cup medal of the season and career. Italy’s Arianna Fontana edged out the two Canadians for gold.

Canada’s third medal of the day in Erzurum came from Kasandra Bradette in the 1000m. The silver was Bradette’s second individual World Cup medal of the season. She had previously skated to third in the 500m at the Shanghai event in December.

All three Canadian women could return to the podium on Sunday in the 3000m relay.
