Erich Eichhorn (ISN) – Men’s Canadian Sevens team was unable to replicate last year’s Cup semi-final appearance falling to a stiff USA side 20-0 in the quarter finals Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

The USA Eagles jumped out to an early lead with three trys in in first half, playing in their own end most of the match, it was an uphill battle that Canada was just not able to recover from.  USA’s Danny Barrett was able to dive over the line on their opening possession despite the Canada’s John Moonlight’s efforts to knock the fleet footed Eagle out of bounds before pushing across the line in the corner. The USA would take advantage of the same side with two more trys on the same side on scores by Folau Nuia and Zack Test to set the tone of the game.

With a huge mountain to climb, Canada was unable to muster a definitive attack against the red, white and blue despite best efforts. The USA would seal the test on a second half try by Carlin Isles’ try to put the game away.

Canada will move on to play ex-Canada team coach Geraint John’s Austrialian team in the Plate semi-final on Sunday.

Coach Liam Middleton would comment on Sunday’s match up. “Against Australia tomorrow in the Plate Semi’s we need to play the game that worked for us quite well against England and Argentina. All the things that we’re good at we need to put them together and we know we have what it takes to win against Australia,” said Middleton following the loss to USA in the Cup Quarter-Final.”
