(ISN) – The club went 1 and 1 on the weekend, losing the 2nd div women’s game (66-20 vs Comox), and winning the 3rd div match (32-21, also vs Comox).
John Lyall has this match report for the 3rds:
The Velox thirds continued their undefeated 2015 season on the road against the always tough Comox Kickers. After all the dust settled and arms were twisted, we showed up with 12, including trainer Steph who strapped the boots on for his rugby debut on the wing. Having some Valhallians on hand including Evans, Barbados Jae and Manawatu Turbo Dylan didn’t hurt the cause.
The Thirds opened the scoring through Jae running 60 m in, following some sound defense. Convert missed as we played on a bog of a field with no tee, drop goal attempts were dodgy at best. The game ebbed and flowed, although we never relinquished the lead, it was 22- 21 at one point in the 2nd half with 15 to go. Neish and Conrad then played some keep away down the field before hitting a supporting Pickup who dished to his Langford soulmate Jaime Dark for Pickups 4th assist of day. Convert missed and still only up by 6 points, newcomer Liam finished the day with his third of the day, netting a hat trick.
Back to the Comox club, where Conrad was recognized as MoM, and Liam Boob of match for being greedy with his hat trick, and wearing footlocker shorts. Next up Cowichan at home, we are waiting to hear if we are a go Saturday or Sunday.
With Vegas 7’s in the rear view mirror, the BCRU is ready to get down to business. All of our squads have games:
Premier Women: away to Seattle (Saturday)
2nd Div Women: away to Seattle (Saturday)
1st Div Men: home to Cowichan (1pm Saturday)
3rd Div Men: home to Cowichan (tbd)
