Organized this past week-end at the national beach volleyball training centre in Toronto, the Volleyball Canada NORCECA Trials determines annually the teams in both genders who will participate in NORCECA tournaments for the upcoming season.
The 2014 FIVB U23 Bronze Medalists, Taylor Pischke/Melissa Humana-Parades captured the first place by beating the 2014 FIVB U21 World Champions Sophie Bukovec/Tia Miric (21-17, 21-14).
In the women’s 3rd place match, Kacie MacTavish/Caleigh Whitaker defeated Brandie Wilkerson/Camille Saxton (21-16, 21-17) while Victoria Altomare/Julie Gordon won out over Claudia Seguin/Alex Poletto (21-15, 21-13) for 5th place.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Pischke/Humana-Paredes defeated Wilkerson/Saxton (21-18, 21-15) and Bukovec/Miric prevailed over MacTavish/Whitaker (17-21, 23-21, 15-13)
Sophie Bukovec and Alex Poletto flew to Toronto for the event as they are currently playing at USC and Colorado State, respectively.
On the men’s side, Sam Pedlow/Grant O’Gorman finished first over Christian Redmann/Maverick Hatch (21-0, 21-0) as Redmann/Hatch forfeited due to injury.
In the men’s 3rd place match Dan Dearing/Garrett May defeated Ryan Vandenburg/Aaron Nusbaum (21-13, 21-14) and in the men’s 5th place match, Mike Plantinga/Cam Wheelan outplayed James Battiston/Simon Fecteau-Boutin (21-13, 21-13).
In the semi-finals, the trial winning’s peer Pedlow/O’Gorman defeated Dearing May (21-17, 10-21, 15-7) when Redmann/Hatch won out Vandenburg/Nusbaum (21-18, 21-18)
