VANCOUVER – Nate Ollis (Victoria, B.C.) fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the NAIA No. 3 UBC Thunderbirds in their dual match against the Western Washington Vikings Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. The T-Birds fell to the Vikings 278 to 282, with WWU’s B team placing third at 298, followed by UBC’s B squad at 302.
Conner Kozak (Vernon, B.C.), Scott Secord (Calgary) and Jack Wood (Banff, Alta.) all shot 1-under 71s while Evan Holmes carded a 2-over 74.
WWU’s Jack Kelly was the top finisher after a 4-under 68. Teammate David Fonua tied Ollis with a 69.
On the ‘B’ team, Trent Abraham (Hamilton, Ont.) and Gavin McQueenie (Toronto) both finished at 2-over 74, while Derek Hinchcliffe (Corunna, Ont.) was a further shot back at 3-over 75. Donald Qiu (Surrey, B.C.) recorded on a 7-over 79 while Brett Pasula (Red Deer, Alta.) rounded out the UBC contingent with an 8-over 80.
The next tournament for the Thunderbirds will be the Sacramento State University Invitational March 9-10 in California.
