(ISN) – PENTICTON, BC-Over three thousand enthusiastic pink clad fans packed the SOEC on Anti-Bullying night and the Penticton Vees gave them plenty to cheer about, in a 4-2 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday.
The Vees (42-9-3-2) special teams was the difference, as they scored twice on the man-advantage and kept the Bulldogs (26-23-2-4) second ranked power-play off the scoresheet.
Demico Hannoun, Tyson Jost and Patrick Newell each finished with two points and Jack Ramsey and Gabe Bast also scored in the win.
Bulldogs Captain Mitch Makin and Marcus Russell scored for the visitors, who dropped their third straight and second in as many days.
Jack Ramsey, clad in pink, scored the Vees opening goal late in the first on a power-play. Jost was stopped at the post but the puck squirted to Ramsey and he jammed it in past Billy Christopoulos 18:24.
The Vees doubled their lead just before time expired in the first and this time on a five-on-three power-play. Bast ripped a point-shot from the top of the circles that took a deflection before beating Christopoulos at 19:57.
Alberni Valley came to life in the second, as they rallied for two goals in a minute and fifty-four seconds. Makin made it 2-1 when Scott Clark’s pass from the corner went off his leg and past Hunter Miska at 2:08. Then Marcus Russell pounced on a rebound at the side of the Vees net to tie the game at 4:02 to stun a capacity crowd.
The Vees called a time-out and that seemed to settle the troops as they found a go-ahead marker late in the middle stanza. Hannoun, who was stopped on a breakaway earlier in the period, made good on his second chance, as he put a shot up high and over Christopoulos at 14:45; his team leading 23rd.
Hannoun then turned play-maker, as he setup Patrick Newell with a beautiful tape-to-tape pass in the third. Hannoun hit Newell, who was streaking down the middle, before he tipped the puck over Christopoulos’ glove at 5:22.
Alberni Valley pressured the Vees in the final minutes of the third, as the pulled the goalie earlier for the extra attacker but couldn’t manufacture a third goal.
