Ottawa, Ont. Feb. 20, 2015 — Dressage Canada is pleased to announce and congratulate the 2014 recipients of the Lauren Dilanni Freestyle Awardand the Dressage Canada Achievement Awards.

The Lauren Dilanni Freestyle Award is presented to riders who demonstrate freestyle excellence in competition by achieving at least three scores of 67% or more in freestyle classes at Second Level or higher.

Recipients receive a cash award generously donated by the Board of the Lauren Dilanni Memorial Fund in memory of Dilanni, a passionate advocate of dressage who passed away suddenly at the age of 40. Three of Dilanni’s friends established the fund in her honour with the goal of developing interest in freestyle competition and therefore attracting competitors, owners, and sponsors to the sport of dressage.

The fund is administered through the Community Foundation of Ottawa under the direction of Board members Irene Greenberg, Joanna Crilly and Joan Johnston.

The 2014 recipients are as follows:

Rider / City / Freestyle Level
Simone Williams / Navan, Ont. / Intermediaire I
Virginia McKey / Simcoe, Ont. / Intermediaire I
Suzanne Le Gars / Ardrossan, Alta. / Second Level
Hannah Beaulieu / Maple Ridge, B.C. / Third Level

“I was surprised and delighted to win the Lauren Dilanni Freestyle Rider Award,” commented Williams. “I would like to thank Equine Canada and the members of the Lauren Dilanni Freestyle Award selection committee for choosing me as one of this year’s recipients, and Karen Robinson for putting the freestyle music together. It is extremely enjoyable putting together these freestyles where the dynamic movement of the horse and the music come together so beautifully.”

Dressage Canada also provides annual Achievement Awards to horses and riders who have obtained exceptional scores at Equine Canada Silver and Gold competitions. Medals can be earned by each rider/horse as scores are achieved at Training through Grand Prix levels.
