(ISN) – Saskatoon, SK—Despite missing most of the first half of the season with an injury, Brad Gunter of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack has been named a first team CIS all-star.

The announcement came at the CIS Volleyball Nationals, which are being hosted by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
Gunter, a fourth year outside hitter from Courtenay, BC led the Canada West and CIS in kills per set (4.57) and was second in the Canada West and CIS in service aces per set (0.46). He appeared in 17 matches and had 2976 kills. His points per set (5.3) was first in the nation.
He helped lead the WolfPack on a brilliant second half run where they won eight matches in a row to secure a playoff spot. They were knocked out of the Canada West playoffs in the quarterfinals by the Trinity Western University Spartans.
TRU head coach Pat Hennelly said when he heard the news: “Proud of the effort Brad and our team put forth in the second semester. Brad continues to develop and unfortunately lost part of this year due to injury. Brad has always represented the TRU Athletics on the court and in the community. He is our most awarded player and we look forward to his fifth year.”

Gunter is only the third WolfPack player ever to be named a first team CIS all-star. Current Canadian national senior “A” team member Gord Perrin (Creston, BC) was a first team all-star in 2009-10.
