VIU casts away Capilano Blues crew

The 3rd seeded VIU Mariners cranked out a colossal four-set win against the scrappy #2 Capilano Blues in today’s first Semi-Final match-up. While the Mariners advance to tomorrow’s 6pm Gold Medal match where they will defend their Championship title, the Blues are cast away to play for Bronze at 3pm.

“CAP’s game plan was flawless,” comments VIU Mariners Head Coach Shane Hyde. “We’re going to take a couple hours to celebrate before thinking about tomorrow, but we know that whoever we play, it will be exciting and challenging match.”

Fourth-year libero Kelsey Johnson (Nanaimo) passed flawlessly over the entire match and made a monster 23 digs to earn Player of the Match for VIU. Notching 20 kills, 6 stuff blocks and 1 ace along with 6 digs, third-year right-side Kira Sutcliffe was named POM for Capilano. Earlier in the week, Kira was named PACWEST WVB Player of the Year and a 1st Team All-Star.
