Saanich, BC (ISN) – The Capilano Blues captured the bronze medal on the Women’s side at the 2015 PACWEST Volleyball Championships, by sweeping the College of the Rockies Avalanche 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19 at the PISE Gymnasium at Camosun College on Saturday afternoon.

The #2 Capilano Blues were no match for the 5th seeded Avalanche, who finished fourth with the loss.

“I’m very proud of the team … to come in today and play as consistent as they did after last night’s match is impressive in itself,” commented Capilano Head Coach Cal Wohlford. “It was a great opportunity for the athletes to show the hours of work they’ve been dedicated to putting in, and to do it in this type of facility … what a great venue.”

First-year Capilano athlete Danae Shephard led the Blues to Bronze with her dominant play in the middle and 11 offensive points (4 kills, 5 blocks, 2 aces), earning Player of the Match.

Fourth-year leftside Kelsey Thompson was Player of the Match for the Avalanche. Kelsey stepped up to dominate the third set for both teams and made 9 kills, 1 ace and 5 digs over the match.
