COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Jay Carlson notched his first hat trick of the season to lead No. 10 Maryland men’s lacrosse team to a 12-3 victory over Drexel on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Meeting for the first time since 1943, the Dragons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Maryland (3-1) defense buckled down to hold them scoreless for 56:17.
Bryan Cole jump-started the Terrapin offense when he found Matt Rambo with 3:02 remaining in the first quarter to kick off the scoring for the Terps.
Cole then found the back of the net himself to knot the score at 2-2 with 14:11 left in the second quarter.
The offensive domination continued with three consecutive goals from Carlson, who has scored in a team-leading eight consecutive games.
Kyle Bernlohr finished with 11 saves to lead the strong defensive performance along with Casey Ikeda who caused three turnovers. Dan Morris also made a save in relief of Bernlohr.
A pair of freshman, Connor Kelly and Bryce Young each tallied their first career goals for the 3-1 Terrapins.
