Vikes men add two silvers, one bronze on Day 2

(ISN) – VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s track team are getting familiar with the podium after their Day 2 performance on Feb. 28 at the Canada West Track and Field Championship hosted in Winnipeg, Man. The Vikes earned silver and bronze in the 600-m event, while the 4×400-m relay team captured silver.


Second year Adam Paul-Morris was the top Vike today taking second in the 600-m in 1:20.06, while teammate Brendon Restall took bronze in 1:20.95. Calgary’s Garrett King took first place in 1:19.99. Rookie Nick Taylor neared the podium finishing fourth in 1:21.23 while Adam Gaudes, Tyler Smith andIsaac Penner swept spots eight through 10.

Two Vikes cracked the Top-10 in the 1500-m event as Cole Peterson finished fifth in 3:56.08 and Ben Weir took eighth in 3:59.43. Calgary’s Roman Justinen took gold in 3:54.59 and was followed by Trinity Western’s Declan White and Calgary’s Alex James for silver and bronze, respectively.

The Vikes picked up their second silver medal of the day in the final event of the meet. Taylor, Paul-Morris, Penner and Restall steered the Vikes to second place in 3:18.42 in the 4×400-m relay. Calgary took gold in 3:16.80, while the Spartans calimed bronze in 3:18.92.

The Vikes men finished fourth overall in the team standings with 48 points. Calgary took top honours for the first time since 2012, winning the banner with 84 points.

The Vikes will now have just two weeks to prepare for the CIS National Championships hosted in Windsor, Ont. Mar. 12-14.
