Saanich, BC (ISN) – The Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners captured the bronze medal on the Men’s side at the 2015 PACWEST Volleyball Championships, by sweeping the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats 25-22, 28-26 and 27-25 at the PISE Gymnasium at Camosun College on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the 3-0 win, this match could not have been closer as both teams dug deep to put away their opponents and close the season in the Top 3.
“It was a close match but we had that little bit of fight left in us from last night’s game to push us through,” stated Mariners Head Coach Abe Avender. “It was nice to see our boys step up in the 20’s to get the last few points and close it out.”

“Bronze is the hardest to win because you’ve lost the chance for Gold,” added Avender. “Today’s win means a lot to us, especially our fifth-year guys. This is the closest group of athletes I’ve ever coached, from the first guy to the last.”
