Angelina Carvery of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 1, 2015.

Carvery was named to the championship all-star team and claimed tournament MVP honours at the Subway AUS Women’s Basketball Championship this past weekend at Scotiabank Centre.

The third-year arts student from Halifax, N.S. was named Subway player of the game in the Huskies’ 55-53 win in Saturday’s championship semifinal versus the Cape Breton Capers. Carvery posted a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in the matchup.

In Sunday’s championship final, Saint Mary’s topped UPEI 59-51. The 5-foot-9 guard posted 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals as the Huskies claimed their third consecutive AUS championship banner.

Kashrell Lawrence of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 1, 2015.

A third-year commerce student from Brampton, Ont., Lawrence was named a tournament all-star and the championship MVP at the Subway AUS Men’s Basketball Championship held this past weekend at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.

In Friday night’s quarter-final game, Lawrence posted 22 points, including a game-winning buzzer beater as the Tigers defeated the Cape Breton Capers 62-60. He also had eight rebounds, four steals, an assist and a block in that game.

The 6-foot-2 guard went on to post a double-double in Saturday’s 85-74 semifinal victory over the top-ranked UNB Varsity Reds. He scored 15 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and added two assists and two steals as the Tigers secured their spot in Sunday’s final.

Sunday, as the Tigers came from behind to top the defending champion Saint Mary’s Huskies 88-78 in overtime, Lawrence posted a game-high 31 points and 17 rebounds. He also added three assists and two steals as the Tigers grabbed their first AUS men’s basketball championship banner since the 2010-11 season.
