New Partnership Announced for Canadian Championships

The Canadian Freestyle Ski Halfpipe team is back on Canadian soil this week to compete in the Difference Capital Canadian Open Championships, presented by Audi Royal Oak – an AFP Gold and FIS NorAM event hosted in Calgary at Winsport Canada’s Canada Olympic Park.

Coming off of some successful performances in Park City, Utah, at the U.S. Grand Prix, the athletes are excited to build on their momentum and put on a good show at home.

Competing in the field will be medallists from past Olympic Games, World Championships and X Games, and a host of talented Canadians including Mike Riddle (Sherwood Park, AB), Justin Dorey (Vernon, BC), Simon d’Artois (Whistler, BC), Noah Bowman (Calgary, AB), Kris Atkinson (Calgary, AB), Matt Margetts (Penticton, BC), Keltie Hansen (Edmonton, AB) and Cassie Sharpe (Comox, BC).

“We’re really excited to go back to Calgary because of how good the halfpipe is there,” said Head Coach Trennon Paynter. “We were there in January and it was one of the best training venues we’ve ever had. We’re looking forward to going back and getting some quality runs in at an incredible location.”

“Obviously for us to have an event at home in Canada is really nice. It’s been a while since we’ve had an event with a comparable feel. I think everyone is excited to put on a good show and it’ll be great to have a strong international field there.”

The competition opens on Thursday, March 5 with qualifiers and concludes the following day.

“I’m from Calgary so it’s always pretty cool when we have an event in my hometown,” said Bowman. “I’ll be able to have some friends and family come out to Winsport Olympic Park to watch us compete. It’s really a great spot and a fun atmosphere to host an event. I think we are all looking forward to it. Personally, I know I am.”

In coordination with the competition, the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA) is excited to announce that Konica Minolta will be joining the team as its newest corporate sponsor.

As the official supplier of printing solutions, Konica Minolta will be supporting CFSA’s business operations in document management and utilizing the team’s high performance personnel to build and grow their own employee leadership development program.

“Konica Minolta is excited about our new corporate sponsorship with the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA),” says David Armstrong, Vice President of Marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions (Canada) Ltd. “At Konica Minolta, we strive to create a global impact in the world of technology, much like how the CFSA athletes strive to leave their mark on the slopes and dominate global athletic competitions from the Olympic Games to World Championships. We are thrilled to work together with the CFSA and support a group of young, talented athletes.”

Both organizations see great potential in working together, with CFSA’s CEO Bruce Robinson commenting on the brand qualities shared by Konica Minolta and Freestyle Skiing.

“The CFSA is excited to partner with Konica-Minolta as the Official Supplier for office printing solutions,” said Robinson. “Konica Minolta believes in giving shape to ideas and is uniquely matched with freestyle skiing, a sport that is innovating and creating new ideas regularly. We look forward to working with Konica Minolta and the support they will provide to the CFSA to bring our ideas to life.”

The CFSA will welcome Konica Minolta to the team at a private hosting function following the finals of the halfpipe event.
