UAPB hands No. 9 Miss. State first loss

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Arkansas-Pine Bluff handed No. 9 Mississippi State its first loss with a 3-2 win against the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

In a 2-2 tie, UAPB pushed across the winning run in the top of the eighth inning on an Andre Davis bases loaded walk scoring Joshua Cassidy.

UAPB grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Westin Hinkel and Rashawn Tillman scoring on a single up the middle by Vladimir Gomez.

MSU tied the contest at in the bottom of the fourth inning with Wes Rea scoring on a Seth Heck single to left center and Josh Lovelady scoring on a Jake Vickerson fielder’s choice.

Both teams finished the contest with six hits.

UAPB was led by Tillman from the plate as he recorded two hits in four at-bats and scoring one run for the Golden Lions, while Heck finished with two hits in five at-bats to lead MSU.

Davis (1-0) picked up the win for the Golden Lions, allowing two hits and striking out two in four innings of relief.

Ross Mitchell (3-1) received the loss for MSU, allowing two hits and one earned run in one-third inning.
