Mariners improve to 2-0 in Cactus League play

(ISN) – PEORIA, Ariz. –Robinson CanóNelson CruzKyle Seager and Logan Morrison, the No. 3-4-5-6 hitters in the lineup, combined to go 8-for-12 with a double, home run and three RBI to lead the Mariners to a 9-4 victory over the San Diego Padres Thursday afternoon in Cactus League play at Peoria Stadium.

The Mariners improved to 2-0 in Cactus League play.

The Mariners jumped out to an early 4-1 lead through four innings. Canó and Cruz hit a pair of two-out singles in the bottom of the first, and Seager got the Mariners on the board with a run-scoring single. Canó doubled in his second at-bat and scored on a towering home run to left field by Cruz in the bottom of the third.

Patrick Kivlehan continued his early strong showing in camp, hitting a three-run home run in the eighth inning. In two games he is 3-for-5 (.600) with one home run and 3 RBI. 

Starting pitcher Roenis Elias scattered three hits in 2.0 scoreless innings and right-hander Justin Germano earned the win allowing 2 hits in 1.1 scoreless innings.

                                                                                                                                  

The Mariners (2-0) continue to Cactus League play tomorrow (Friday, March 6) at 12:05 PT/1:05 MT with a road game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Camelback Ranch in Glendale. The game will be broadcast on 710 ESPN Seattle and the Mariners Radio Network. Right-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez is scheduled to start for the Mariners against Dodgers left-hander David Huff.
