Canadian Endurance Riders Shine During Fun in the Sun Endurance Festival

Ottawa, Ont., Mar. 6, 2015 –– Wendy MacCoubrey of St Justine de Newton, Que. earned two top finishes to lead the charge of all around excellent performances from Canadian athletes at the Fun in the Sun (FITS) Endurance Festival, held Feb. 25 to March 1, 2015 in Williston, Fla.

Despite a cool and wet week, MacCoubrey and Am Mysterious Mopsa, an eight-year-old Arabian mare owned by Yvette Vinton, persevered to place second in the CEI 3* 160 km race with a time of 12:39:06.

MacCoubrey also rode Son of a Diamond (Diamonds An Rust x Zetco SX Padraxx), her nine-year-old Arabian gelding, to a sixth place finish with a time of 9:07:03 in the CEI 2* 120 km event, which took place earlier in the week on Feb. 26.

Also finishing top-three on the leaderboard was Tracy Vollman of Regina, Sask. and her 13-year-old Arabian gelding Ra Karim. The duo placed second in the CEI 2* 120 km event on Feb. 27 with a time of 9:25:20. Vollman followed up with another second place finish, this time in the CEI 1* 90 km, after crossing the finish line in a time of 6:32:05 with Lexi Vollman’s eight-year-old Pintabian gelding, AJ Splash of Pizzaz.

Yvette Vinton, a Canadian currently residing in Morriston, Fla., and Teese (ZT Ali Baba x Samtyr), her 15-year-old Arabian gelding, also made a splash by finishing 10th in the CEI 2* 120 km race on Feb.26 with a time of 10:55:20.

In the CEI 1* 80 km event held on Feb. 26, Robert Gielen of Flesherton, Ont. rode his six-year-old Arabian gelding, More Bang For Your Buck (Doran x Forty Thieves) to a third place finish with a time of 5:10:28.
