(ISN) – VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team are currently in the lead following the first 36 holes of the Corban Spring Invitational, hosted Mar. 9-10 at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore. Third-year Vikes Alex Cartwright and rookie teammate Mike Griffin are currently first and second overall in the field of 51, while Victoria placed first in the team standings with a 2-under par 566 score.
Alberta native Cartwright was the top Vike on the first day, shooting 68 and 70 to finish with a two-round score of 138, four strokes under par. First-year Victoria native Griffin was next-best marking 70 and 69 for a three-under par score of 139.
“The guys are looking to carry the momentum from last week’s win in California,” said Justin Clews, Vikes golf head coach. “This week is an opportunity to further increase our rankings.”
Concordia finished second behind the Vikes, with a 15-over par score of 583, while Corban was ranked third with 20-over par 588. Corban’s Jared Lambert was the third top player, shooting 71 and 70 (141).
Third-year Vike Matthew Broughton, who shot 71 and 73 today, finished two-over par 144. Currently, the Reynolds Secondary graduate ranks fifth in the individual scoring table.
First-year Vike Lawren Rowe was 4-over par 146, while Jesse Teron improved from 80 to 73 in the second round to aggregate an 11-over par 153.
The Vikes will return to the course tomorrow, Mar. 10, for their last round of the Corban Spring Invitational.
