Recap: Rockies 4, Mariners 1

(ISN) – PEORIA, Ariz. – Third baseman Kyle Seager hit his first home run of the spring, but a late rally lifted the Colorado Rockies to a 4-1 victory over the Mariners Wednesday afternoon in Cactus League play at Peoria Stadium.

The Rockies scored a run off Mariners starter Erasmo Ramirez in the first inning on a two-out home run by Troy Tulowitzki.

Seager tied the game with a solo home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the third inning.

The game remained tied until the Rockies scored three runs off relief pitcher Lucas Luetge in the top of the ninth inning.

LHP Danny Hultzen returned to the mound in game action for the first time since Sept. 1, 2013, tossing a scoreless fourth inning. After walking the leadoff batter (Tulowitzki), Hultzen induced a pair of groundballs (including a double play) to end the frame.

RHP Fernando Rodney (1.0 IP, 2 BB, K), RHP Tom Wilhelmsen (1.0 IP), RHP Yoervis Medina (1.0 IP, BB) and LHP Charlie Furbush (1.0 IP, K) all recorded scoreless relief outings.

Center fielder Endy Chavez went 2-for-2 as the only Mariners player to record a multi-hit game. Right fielder Seth Smith (2B) and left fielder Stefen Romero (3B) tabbed extra base hits.
