Maltais goes wire to wire, Hill wins second bronze at SBX World Cup

Dominique Maltais owned the big final and Kevin Hill won a bronze for his second medal in as many days at a snowboard cross World Cup event in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.

The FIS website reported a start-to-finish win in the big final for 34-year-old Maltais, who is competing in the final season of her career.

“I’m really happy about the win. I wanted to take it easy this year because it’s my last World Cup season but I always want to finish on the podium. And I knew I could win this one. I like the course and I knew that I can be fast here,” said Maltais in a FIS report.

The Sochi silver medallist beat France’s Nelly Moenne Loccoz who was second, while French teammate Chloe Trespeuch rounded out the podium.

Kevin Hill completed a double bronze weekend by coming third in the men’s big final. The 28-year-old was also shortest step on the podium on Saturday.

Yesterday’s champ, Spain’s Lucas Eguibar was second this time around with Australian Alex Pullin taking the gold.

The final snowboard cross of the season goes next week, March 21st, in La Molina, Spain.

Saturday

This Saturday’s World Cup snowboard cross is done, with one medal for Canadian rider Kevin Hill.

Hill won bronze Saturday in Veysonnaz, Switzerland. The world championships silver medallist from earlier this year was beaten by Spanish winner Lucas Eguibar, and Russian Nikolay Olyunin.

Hill, 28-years-old, also won X Games gold in January of this year (photo below), so 2015 is going well for the Vernon native. Hill’s only other World Cup medal was back in 2013, a bronze in Montafon, Austria.
