ISN – (Alberta Soccer) – Indoor soccer facilities across the province will come to life this weekend when some of the best young soccer players and teams from across the province arrive for the Servus Credit Union Youth Indoor Provincial Soccer Championships from March 13 to 15. The competition will be spread out through eight centres in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer, St. Albert and for the first time, in Okotoks, at their brand new Legacy Regional Field House.
Over 4,700 soccer players that make up 235 teams from across the province will convene to decide this year’s provincial champions in 24 separate competitions. Male and female teams qualify from all over the province in four different age categories including U-12, U-14, U-16, and U-18 and in three different tiers (II to IV). Referees participating in the championships will, for the second time, donate a portion of their game fees to KidSport Alberta continuing an initiative that was started during the 2014 Outdoor Provincial Championships and saw almost $13,000 donated to the charity.
“This competition is an enriching and beneficial experience for both the youth teams and host cities alike and we are excited to be in six different cities this year,” said Alberta Soccer President Glenn Montgomery. “We encourage players, coaches and parents to embrace these championships as a celebration of their successful indoor season and we encourage soccer fans in our host cities to get out and watch these talented young players.”
