Senior infielder Connor Panas was named the Metro Atlantic Conference player of the week for his efforts in four contests.

Panas hit .385 and helped the Griffs go 2-2 in a busy slate of action. This is the fifth weekly honor Canisius has received this season.

Panas recorded one homerun and six RBIs on five hits during that stretch. His week started against Buffalo on Wednesday, March 11, where he belted a three run homerun in a 13-6 home-opening win against the team’s cross town rival.

In a 7-4 win against Central Michigan, he recorded two hits and three RBIw. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 effort in a loss against Indiana State.

All told Panas finished the week with a homer, two doubles and five walks, as well as two stolen bases. During that stretch he recorded a .385 batting average and .556 on base percentage to go along with a .769 slugging percentage.

Aside from being an offensive leader on the team, Panas finds himself as a leader in the nation, as he is currently ranked 14th in doubles, 30th in slugging percentage and 49th in homeruns.

The Griffs are coming off a tournament where they went 1-3 at Indiana State where they defeated central Michigan but lost a pair against the Sycamores and one against Rutgers.

Canisius next plays on this weekend when it plays the Iona Gaels at New Rochelle, N.Y.
