Women’s Basketball | Day 2 Recap

Game 5

The Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy started off the 2nd day of action at the CCAA Women’s Basketball Nationals with a 69-61 win against the Mount Allison Mounties. A very close game at the half, the Mounties picked up their 1st lead of the championship from the strong play of Maddyson McDonald and Taylor-Rae Cote.

Julie Dufresne started off hot in the 3rd quarter, as the 3-point play of the Dynamiques changed the feel of the game. Dufresne’s five 3-pointers lead the way for Sainte-Foy, as she was named the Player of the Game and was presented her award by Billy Fraser a member of the All-Star selection committee. For the Mounties, Maddyson McDonald had 15 points to be the Player of the Game.

Game 6

The VIU Mariners opened up a 7-1 lead early in the first quarter against the Quest Kermodes in an All-PACWEST match-up, but the Kermodes battled right back and made it a 27-22 game at half-time. It would be a big 3rd quarter for Quest as they out-scored VIU by a 16-6 margin. The Mariners had no answer for the inside presence of Aimee Johnston, who finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds to get the Kermodes Player of the Game. The Mariners tried to make it a game late in the 4th, but ultimately fell 52-41. Player of the Game presented by Carrie Chassels, VIU Executive Director Student Affairs, went to Mariners Jamie McFarlane, who had 16 points to lead her team.
