Less than three months before the start of an important summer of competition, Canada Soccer and Umbro Canada proudly unveiled the new “home” red jersey that Canadian National Teams will wear when they walk out on the pitch for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ and 2018 FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers.
“Canada Soccer is thrilled to continue its strong partnership with Umbro Canada and celebrate Canada’s soccer heritage,” said Victor Montagliani, Canada Soccer President.
“Our National Team athletes cherish the privilege to wear the maple leaf and represent their country, and we are excited to release this new Canada red jersey so that fans everywhere can wear their colours proudly as they stand behind our players.”
“On behalf of all of us at Umbro Canada I am extremely proud and excited to release our latest edition of #CanadaRED,” added Mike Shoemaker, Vice President at Umbro Canada. “As always we feel it is a privilege to have our Double Diamond logo displayed alongside the Canada Soccer badge. In one of the most important years in Canadian soccer history, this jersey will give supporters and fans young and old the opportunity to wear the same colours as their heroes. It will be part of the largest collection of Canada Soccer merchandise that has ever been offered. We continue to thank the loyal fans, retailers and Canada Soccer for their support.”
The jersey features Umbro’s continued focus on performance, made of 100% spun polyester for ultimate comfort. In addition, Canadian Maple Leaf laser cut venting on the back allows for maximum air circulation. The authentic Umbro clean and classic styling is augmented by a gradient upper body for added surface interest while Canadian patriotism is called out by the embroidered Canadian flag on the back of the neck and the Canadian national anthem soundwave embroidery on the lower hip, a uniquely distinctive element to official Canada jerseys that continues from previous editions.
This edition of the Canadian jersey is also the first one to feature a custom font for lettering and numbering. Inspired by the “True North” that is Canada, each character is shaped to symbolize the strength of ice that is precisely chiseled to bring its beauty to light. The type face, aptly named “Les Rouges”, embodies the determination and resilience Canada’s National Teams demonstrate each time they step on the pitch and is the perfect complement to this new 2015 kit.
The new #CanadaRED jersey is now available to buy in men’s, women’s, youth and toddlers styles on the Canada Soccer online store.
The new Canada kit unveil was held in conjunction with Sport Chek’s West Edmonton Mall flagship store one year anniversary celebrations. Fittingly, Canada Soccer, Umbro Canada and Sport Chek announced on the day that Canadians will be able to purchase their own official Canadian red jersey at select Sport Chek locations across Canada starting early April.
“We are thrilled to host the unveil of #CanadaRED in our West Edmonton Sport Chek store,” said Frederick Lecoq, Senior-Vice President of Marketing at FGL Sports. “Soccer has become one of the most popular sports in Canada and no doubt our Women’s National team performances have had a lot to do with that. We’re proud to support these inspiring athletes and wish them all the best as they approach the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.”
The new “home” red jersey reveal is also the starting point of a Canada Soccer digital campaign aimed at celebrating Canadian soccer fans’ pride and patriotism while rallying around their passion and support for Canada’s National Teams. Fans are invited to share their pictures and stories about the Canadian jersey and their support for Canada’s teams on Twitter using #CanadaRED, and follow @CanadaSoccerEN for more exciting news in the months to come.
