(ISN) – PENTICTON, BC- Luke Voltin started it and ended it and in the most bizarre of fashions, as the Vernon Vipers stunned the Penticton Vees 4-3 in double-overtime Friday night at the SOEC.

With the overtime win, the Vipers take a 3-2 series lead and have a chance to clinch the Interior Division Final on home ice Saturday night in game six.

Voltin scored the game-winner 5:37 into the fifth period, as his pass from the right-wing ramped off a leg in the middle and back into the Vees net. Voltin opened the scoring late in the first, and Mackenzie Bauer and Riley Guenther scored in third period to force overtime.

Riley Alferd, Steen Cooper and Connor Chartier scored for the Vees, all in the second, as the led 3-1 going into the third. Hunter Miska stopped 37 of 40 shots in the loss.

Miska’s counterpart, Danny Todosychuk stopped 48 of 51 shots steered his way, including all 11 he faced in twenty-five minutes of OT.

Voltin broke a scoreless tie at 16:01 of the first when he walked out of the corner and beat Miska up high with a backhand.

That score held up until midway through the second, when Riley Alferd brought the Vees back level. Matt Serratore had his shot stop but Alferd took the rebound around the net and tucked it in on the far-side at 8:57.

Steen Cooper put the Vees ahead for the first time late in the middle frame, when his centering pass at the side of the net hit a Vernon stick and snuck through Todosychuk’s legs; Cooper’s second at 18:13.

Just seven-seconds later, Chartier skated down the middle and wired a wrist-shot from between the circles, which beat Todosychuk over his glove.

Mackenzie Bauer got the Vipers within a goal early in the third, as he pounced on an errant pass up the middle. His wrist-shot caught Miska’s shoulder but trickled up and over his arm at 2:57.

Guenther then tied the game with just over two-minutes left in regulation. After an icing call, the face-off was worked back to Guenther and his wrist-shot from the point found its way in on the near-side at 17:48.
