(ISN) – VICTORIA – With just under two tournaments to go before the NAIA Championships in Georgia this May, the University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf teams will be looking to make a strong finish in the Battle at Primm hosted at the Primm Valley Golf Club in Nevada, Mar. 23-25.
The Vikes roster will consist of rookies Lawren Rowe and Mike Griffin, as well as third years Alex Cartwright, Matthew Broughton and Sean Hay. Griffin previously led UVic to two-straight wins at the Master’s College Spring Invitational and Corban Invitational in March, while also winning the Corban tournament individually.
“This will definitely be the strongest field the men will play in before nationals,” said Justin Clews, Vikes golf head coach. “Based on our team performances during the last two events, I’m sure the guys can win this event by staying patient and focused.”
Currently, the Vikes men are ranked No. 12 in the NAIA and will be looking to surpass at least six teams ranked in the Top-10 at the Battle at Primm.
The three-day event will feature 17 teams contesting on a 36-hole facility. Among the contestants are UBC, Grand View, Concordia, Embry Riddle, Northwood and Wayland Baptist. The men will play the Desert Course, a stretch of 7,131 yards and par 72 course.
The Vikes men play 36 holes on Monday, with shotgun set for 8.30 a.m.
